Fascinating!

Although I've never been a "hobbyshop engineer" or much of a "hardware guy" at all, I still found the above video absolutely fascinating. At least one of my some-time commenters* would probably consider it downright pornographic**. But the classy kind of porn, mind you, with good lighting and jazz music.

*If you and I have never spent considerable time discussing, with outrageous French accents, how zee transisteur is like zee woman, I'm not talking about you.

**Go ahead and click. It's as safe-for-work as safe-for-work gets. Apart from the French interstitials.

Update: Er, my bad -- tip o' the hat to Instapundit.

Update 2: I showed it to my wife, and then had to run off and take care of the wee one. She sat there and watched all 17 minutes of it, totally engrossed. I love that woman!

Music geek speaking here. The song is "Someone To Watch Over Me" by George and Ira Gershwin from the musical "Oh, Kay!" (1926). Can't quite place the artist.

Zees veedeo, you know, eet ees lahk zee fahn wahn...eemprooving weeth each moment of eenjoymahnt...

I can now say I know what I want to do if I ever win the lottery: grow a big wooly beard, set up a machine shop, and hand-make my own vacuum tubes, all while piano music softly plays in the background.

The only thing that could have POSSIBLY improved that is if he'd taken those truly beautiful specimens, placed them carefully in a Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier, cranked it up to ear-bleeding levels, and played Slayer's "Raining Blood". I'd be able to die happy after that.

I was gonna say. This guy is making radios with them! What a waste! I'm sure there is a real market for tube amp components. People pay premium for tube amps as it is. Hand made ones? Definitely a boutique item.
